About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
The Trustees are all Volunteers who give up their time, willingly, to ensure the continued growth and success of South Wales Bowls and Recreation Centre. They are ultimately responsible for the running of the Sully Indoor Bowls Stadium, Extra End Bar and Restaurant, the outdoor Petanque Pistes, and the general welfare of all SWBRC's members and guests. As with all businesses and Charities, we have a zero tolerance to abusive behaviour.

Our Story
The Sully Indoor Bowls Stadium and Car Park was built in 1997 with a National Lottery Grant and a substantial financial contribution from members. In 2019 the Sully Indoor Bowls Club became a Sports Charity (Sully Bowls Foundation) with overall responsibility for the running and progression of Indoor Bowls, especially during the Winter season where we welcome back all the local Clubs after their outdoor summer season. Extra End CIC was also established in 2019 to provide beverages, drinks and hot and cold food to members and visitors. The Sully Bowls Foundation, Extra End and Sully Petanque Club, are incorporated under the umbrella name of South Wales Bowls and Recreation Centre (SWBRC).
Since it was formed in 2019, we were fortunate to have had a range of dedicated Trustees who, during their term of office being responsible for SWBRC, have endured several very costly periods. This included the financial loss from the Covid Pandemic, where the Stadium had to close for two lengthy periods followed by several weeks of restricted usage. This had a severe impact on our financial resources, but their careful management guided us through it. This was soon followed by the massive hike in energy costs which saw our monthly running costs increase five-fold to £18,000 per month. On top of that we had the financial crisis where food and drink dramatically increased in price for all of us. However, by the last quarter of 2024, the Trustees had negotiated a new energy deal saving nearly 70 % on costs, which enabled us to rebuild our bank balance to the stage where we are now financially sound with enough money ring-fenced to refit the Stadium with new flooring and carpet.
The new Trustees for the 2025/2026 season have already made some beneficial cosmetic changes with an updated beverage counter and storage, and more secure Coaching cupboard. The Trustees are aiming to have the new carpet laid in 2027/2028 but have stated that their efforts are being concentrated on getting a new roof in place before they commit to a re-fit of the greens. It is hoped that commitment from our landlords BP, to providing a new roof, will be finally agreed and a time scale determined before the end of 2025.
